With the resort community of Girdwood in South Central Alaska as your base camp, explore Kenai Fjords National Park and witness calving glaciers; travel by the Alaska Railroad through a coastal mountain range; paddle by kayak across a glacier-fed lake and hike among unique ice formations before flying back to your hotel on a private helicopter flightseeing trip.  Finish off your adventure with a visit to view and learn about Alaska brown bears at home in their natural habitat.

Experience Iconic Alaska!

Day 1

Arrive in Anchorage and Travel to Girdwood

Welcome to Alaska! Your friendly private driver will greet you upon landing in Anchorage and transfer you to your hotel in Girdwood located at the base of the Chugach Mountains. Girdwood was initially settled in 1896 when four gold claims were staked along Crow Creek.

Overnight in Girdwood, your home for the next four nights.

Day 2

Explore Kenai Fjords National Park by Cruise - Alaska Railroad Fun

Journey to the Alaska port of Seward this morning with your private driver/guide and board a sightseeing vessel for a glacier and marinelife tour in Kenai Fjords National Park. Search for whales, puffins, sea lions, and sea otters.  Bears and mountain goats are also often seen along the seacoast. Visit a tidewater glacier and enjoy lunch while you watch glaciers calve and crash into the waters below them.

At the conclusion of your day cruise, return to Girdwood onboard the iconic Alaska Railroad. You will be seated in GoldStar Service glass-ceiling dome cars that offer near panoramic views of vibrant scenery and wildlife. Enjoy dinner onboard the train as you take in the scenic Kenai Peninsula and Turnagain Arm (18:00 – 20:50). Arrive in Girdwood where your private driver/guide will be waiting to return you to your hotel.

Day 3

Spencer Glacier Helicopter Adventures

Travel into the Chugach Mountains by the Alaska Railroad to begin your private adventure at Spencer Glacier. With your experienced guide, paddle across a glacier lake to the toe of Spencer Glacier. Spend the afternoon exploring the glacier formations before being whisked away by helicopter back to Girdwood where you’ll meet your driver/guide who will take you back to your hotel. The evening is at leisure to explore the shops and restaurants of Girdwood that feature local cuisine and handmade Alaska treasures.

Day 4

Bear Viewing at Cook Inlet

Travel to Anchorage with your private driver/guide to board your small plane for a day of bear viewing.  Fly along the shores of Cook Inlet to a remote location known for its thriving bear population.  Spend the afternoon watching bears graze on salmon, digging for clams, and munching on sage grass. Due to the abundant food sources available there, bears visit this area frequently throughout the summer to prepare for the long winter ahead.  Return to Anchorage with your pilot, in search of resident Cook Inlet beluga whales during your flight. Your private driver/guide will greet you as you land on Lake Hood and transfer you back to your accommodations.

Enjoy your final evening in Girdwood, depending on the night there may be live music playing at the Sitzmark Bar & Grill located at the base of the mountain.
